Cable Lok Vs. Mini Cable Lok- Clothing Security Tags

Getting the right product for your clothing security can be just as easy as comparing to very similar clothing security tags. Two such products are the Alpha Security Cable Lok and the Alpha Security Mini Cable Lok.
Both of these clothing security tags have the following features:
• 7×7 strand aircraft grade cable
• 95 dBA alarm
• Flashing LED light
• Isolated sound chamber
• Easy to apply and remove
• Tough, secure and reusable
The 3 Alarm clothing alarm version partners perfectly with NanoGate® in addition to providing the following features:
EAS Protection: Activates EAS alarm if a breach occurs
Early Detection: Alarms when merchandise is tampered with in store
Extended Range: Self alarms if merchandise is removed from store
The difference between the two really comes down to size: the size of the lanyard and the size of the housing.
The Cable Lok has three sizes of lanyards- 6”, 48” and 72”. The Housing – 3.53”L x 1.62”W x 0.74”D 25 (8.97 cmL x 4.11 cmW x 1.88 cmD)
The Mini Cable Lok also has three sizes of lanyards, but they start at 3”, and then 48” and 72”. The Housing is slightly smaller as well – 2.60”L x 1.16”W x 0.80”D 25 (6.60 cmL x 2.95 cmW x 2.03 cmD) which works great for smaller items like shoes.

A Quick Addition- Checkpoint Tags

When the retailer rebrands their merchandise, they will typically take out any existing labels and sew in the new proprietary ones. For example, a shirt would have the original tags in the back of the neckline or collar. They would be taken out and replaced with the new brand tags. This replacement is the perfect time to add security tags on clothes in the form of Checkpoint Tags.
These Checkpoint tags are actually a paper label that is embedded with an anti theft device.
This anti theft label would be encased in a small pocket of material. The pockets are close to the size of a quarter, which is far less bulky when compared to the button and pin hard tags used by many retailers for clothing security.
The softer pocket material around the anti theft label helps reduce any discomfort a customer might experience when trying the shirt on- another benefit to using these clothing security tags.
The pocket is a secure way to add security tags on clothes with minimal time and effort on your part, or that of your employees. Best of all, the pocket is removed after being purchased by the customer once they get home, with a pair of common household shears. Because these labels are sewn into the neckline or seam, they are easily removed without as much risk of damaging the garment.

A High Rate Of Return- Wardrobing Retail

Having products like wardrobing tags gives a better determining factor between a customer who is returning multiple items legitimately, and one who is wardrobing retail. In other words, they are purchasing clothing items and have no intention of keeping them after they have worn them.
More research is showing that a larger majority of loyal customers actually have a higher return velocity or rate of return. For a retailer to primarily rely on return velocity as a basis to accept or deny a return/ refund puts that retailer at risk for offending one of their best, and most legitimate customers.
This is due in part to the level of comfort a customer has in spending their money with a particular retailer. If they know they can take the time to find exactly what they want, they will come back.
Sometimes customers want to try on items in their own home. Mother’s of young or multiple children find it difficult to wrestle everyone into a fitting room and keep them calm long enough to actually try on and evaluate a clothing purchase. It is easier to buy several items that look like they might work out and try them on at home where they have the space and the time to do so.
Maybe they need to compare clothing styles and colors to items already in their wardrobe. It can be difficult to remember exactly what you have in your closet and then try to find an exact fit for a new piece. Both scenarios happen frequently and can contribute to a high return rate.
Both scenarios however will benefit from using wardrobing tags to show an employee that these frequent or large returns are indeed legitimate and should be honored appropriately with their refunds.

Looking Ahead- Clothing Security

Confronting a shoplifter takes more than just responding to a clothing alarm and throwing out a wild accusation. It takes actual knowledge of the crime being committed. An accusation that has no truth to it can result in a wrongful detainment lawsuit from the accused, costing an enormous sum of money and time.
Confronting or detaining a shoplifter takes an intimate knowledge of the crime. That means you have to personally witness the event. You have to know one hundred percent, undeniably, that the clothing the person has is yours, and they intended to steal it.
One of the parts of recovering the merchandise during the initial detainment is to make sure the shoplifter knows you have complete knowledge of their actions. That usually includes you stating “ I know you have Item A hidden in your bag (pocket, purse, coat, etc)”. By stating the exact item and the exact location the item was concealed, you have proven your knowledge of their theft attempt.
While some of the larger companies have access to RFID tags as a part of their clothing security, smaller business still have to rely on being an actual eyewitness to determine which specific pieces of merchandise have been concealed.
If dedicating that kind of time to reduce shoplifting losses just isn’t plausible for you, security tags on clothes are an effective deterrent. They stop losses before they even begin.

Is This The Answer? – Wardrobing Tags

Are Wardrobing Tags really the answer to solve the problem of refund fraud in your store? Yes. Yes they are. Wardrobing tags, or more specifically Alpha Shark Tags are an easy and comprehensive way to determine if a refund should be taken.
If the Alpha Shark Tags is still on and un-tampered with, then there shouldn’t be a reason to suspect wardrobing. However, to really put an end to wardrobing retail and other more costly forms of refund fraud, there needs to be another action plan put into place.
When you clarify your return policy, customers have a better chance of understanding what they can and cannot do even before a purchase is made. It is easier to retain your customer base when they understand what the ground rules are. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to make a legitimate return, only to find out that the store will not allow it.
That means you need to make sure your return policy is clear and concise, while still protecting your inventory. A few examples are to start with posting your return policy in writing where the customer can see it. You can reinforce this by printing it on the back of the receipt, or adding a second attachment that has the return policy on it.
Secondly educate your employees to educate your customers. Have them verbally explain the policy as the customer is making their purchase. This is especially crucial if they are buying something that has special return considerations like a shortened time frame or all items must be in their original packaging.

Let The Sun Shine In- Checkpoint Tags

As with many accessories, glasses have always been problematic in trying to protect form shoplifters. It’s not just sunglasses that need protection it is also prescription glasses. Now, thanks to Checkpoint tag compatible Alpha Security technology, you can (as they say) protect this year’s hottest sunglasses and prescription eyewear with the Eyewear Tag.
These Eyewear Tags are small attachments that fit on the glasses’ earpieces. The Eyewear Tag provides durable construction with a protective cushion that securely holds and protects eyewear. They are easy to apply and remove, and easily reused for the next pair of glasses that comes into your inventory. Training your employees on how to use and reuse them will be a breeze.
This clothing security comes in two sizes in RF clothing alarm technology and three sizes in AM technology. This makes it even easier for your clothing security tags to seamlessly incorporate with your Checkpoint tags and existing clothing alarm.
Even better for you and your customers is how small and unobtrusive the Eyewear Tags really are. As with any other clothing security tags, you wouldn’t want to inconvenience your customers in the name of theft prevention. The tags are fitted so the flat side is inward- eliminating bulk for when a customer is trying the glasses on.

Make A Good Impression- Wardrobing

I recently had a chance to interview several recent college graduates. We talked about the opportunities that were opening up to them, now that they had their degrees. The conversation then turned to interviewing skills and general interviewing tips for their job hunt. I wasn’t expecting the moral conversation about wardrobing that was about to follow.
As we talked about how to dress professionally, one of the grads started talking about how she is always prepared because she buys a new outfit for each interview and then returns it. She talked about how the hardest item to return was shoes. When you wear them outside, they immediately begin to show wear on the soles- retailers look for that at the returns desk. Everything else was pretty easy to return.
She figured out that if a suit jacket has the price tag on the sleeve she could bend the plastic on the attachment and slide it carefully through the hole in the price tag. Instead of clipping the plastic piece, she pushes it back inside the sleeve for the interview.
After she is done, she bends the plastic end back through the hole of the price tag. By doing this, the employer never sees the evidence of her wardrobing, and the retailer that she is returning the outfit to never suspect anything because the tag is still attached.

One in Six- Wardrobing Retail

There are some staggering numbers that have come out recently regarding the practice of wardrobing retail stores. One in six women admit to having purchased an item that they knew they were only going to wear one time.
It gets even worse. Of those women, one in eleven of them are wardrobing habitually. That means that this is a part of their day to day lives, and are probably one of the stores “best customers” since they are in all the time buying things. Ugh.
Special occasion items are one of the biggest victims of wardrobing. You have the fashionista that is desperately trying to keep up with the latest trends, the high school prom go-er who wants a beautiful dress, but can’t afford it, and the ladies of society who wouldn’t be caught dead wearing the same thing twice.
Whether through society’s pressure or simply an internal desire to be better than the next, wardrobing retail is a way to stay ahead of the curb. Many of these women will go to great lengths just to keep the merchandise in pristine condition so they can be assured of getting their full refund later.
Since so few retailers use wardrobing tags, it is easy to get away with. That just adds to these women’s ability to rationalize what they are doing and disregard that this is another form of refund fraud.

Themed Holidays- Wardrobing Retail

When we talk about protecting our clothing inventory from wardrobing retail, we think in terms of price points and special occasions. What we sometimes overlook is holiday attire.
Sure, we might concentrate on wardrobing that goes on around December. There are so many holiday parties and family gatherings that we see an influx of wardrobing to meet the clothing demands of the season.
What we are missing is the lesser holidays that occur almost every month throughout the year. Do you carry a special line of green for St. Patrick’s Day? How about fireworks themed or red, white and blue apparel for the Fourth of July? I would bet that you do.
Unfortunately, buyer’s remorse can often settle in with these holiday themed clothing items. Once the excitement of the day is passed, many shoppers realize the limits of the item they purchased. They know they would feel silly with a St. Pats shirt on in the middle of August, or a Halloween outfit in April.
It is then that these shoppers start to think about returning their purchase to get a refund. Since these holiday items are generally sold within a short span of time, the buyer would be within even a 30-day refund policy.
Using wardrobing tags like the Alpha Shark Tag will help eliminate these holiday specific wardrobing returns to your store.

Two For One Sale- Clothing Security

I had an incident recently where a woman had come into the store to buy a new swim set. She thought that she could be sneaky and basically, con the cashier.
This woman picked out her two-piece swimsuit and put them on the same hanger. Then she pulled the price tag off of one of the pieces. She was trying to make it look like the pieces were to be sold as a set, instead of individually.
We have had more success with selling swim items separately, instead of as a two-piece set.
Since we no longer sell swimsuits in a set, everything is sold as an individual item; it was pretty easy for the cashier to spot what was going on. The cashier explained that it was two separate pieces, and she needed to get the price for both items.
Needless to say the woman barked out something rude and left without her half price swimsuit.
Beyond spotting these kinds of two for one scams, we have found several other benefits to only selling swimsuit separates as individual items, instead of as a set.
Customers who can buy the correct top and bottom sizes they need, and are much happier with their purchase, decreasing the amount of returns we have on these items. We also have fewer issues with miss-matched sets. We don’t have to worry about customers taking two sets in different sizes and piecing together the sizes they need, leaving us with a set that is not the same size, and almost impossible to sell.
